About the Course

This class supports students in IB MYP Mathematics (Years 1–5). The aim is to connect day-to-day school work with the kind of thinking and communication MYP expects, while keeping things clear and manageable.

We help students feel secure with current class topics, practise the style of questions that appear in MYP assessments, and when appropriate, explore richer, problem-solving style tasks. Depending on the year level, this can include both straightforward practice (fractions, algebra, equations, graphs, geometry) and more open tasks that match the MYP approach.

How This Course Works

Most lessons are built around recent classwork or homework, upcoming tests, and the types of questions used in MYP tasks. We make sure the student understands the underlying ideas, not only the steps.

For more advanced students or those preparing for on-screen assessments and eAssessments, we also look at typical question formats and work on explaining reasoning clearly in writing.

When helpful, we bring in well-chosen problems from other sources (including AoPS-style questions or rich tasks) that still fit the MYP topics but add depth and interest. The balance between "support" and "challenge" is adjusted to the student: some need to rebuild confidence; others want to push beyond what school alone is offering.

We keep track of which criteria and topic areas we've worked on, and can share brief feedback with parents, especially around important assessments.
